We currently have two peer support groups based on Signal. There are links to the groups below but you must be approved to join, so for the safety of everyone involved please email us at antispeciesistarts@hotmail.com so we can cross check. You MUST read and consent to the boundaries we have set below--if not you will be removed from the group(s).
Aftershock Support Group
Inspired by the book Aftershock: Confronting Trauma in a Violent World: A Guide for Activists and Their Allies by pattrice jones and in-keeping with our goals of community care, Anima Arts Collective has created an anti-oppression support group for animal liberation activists to process our grief, trauma, anger, helplessness, shame and more.
This is a soft container for our emotions and mental wellbeing and struggles, as well as an opportunity for political growth.
Join here.
Caregivers Grief Group
Many caregivers of nonhuman animals, particularly those working and volunteering on (micro)sanctuaries experience high amounts of grief and stress, whether related to the passing of residents or the never-ending bills and vet visits that are the frustrating reality of animal caregiving.
This group is CAREGIVERS ONLY container to share and process grief. We are particularly prioritising sanctuary owners/volunteers/workers. Groups are facilitated by ASAC peers.
Join here.
BOUNDARIES
We set these boundaries to keep everyone in the group as safe as possible. We cannot promise this is a 'safe space', but we aim for it to be a brave space that fosters courage and communication. The group is held on signal.
Please note these are not a crisis groups. If you are in crisis, need legal support, or therapy please see the non-exhaustive list of resources on our Self Help page.
If you would like a 121 space to vent or chat, please make use of our 121 warmline email. Groups are facilitated by ASAC peers.

We set these boundaries to keep everyone in the group as safe as possible. We cannot promise this is a 'safe space', but we aim for it to be a brave space that fosters courage and communication. The group is held on signal.
- Do NOT share information about actions you and/or others have participated in.
- Do NOT share anything about other people or groups: speak for yourself only.
- Do NOT judge or shame anyone for what they share in the group (if they are exhibiting oppressive behaviour or are a potentially dangerous individual, please alert the AAC directly).
- Do NOT private message any group members without their permission.
- Do NOT share or discuss anything outside the group. Signal does not allow screenshots and we have a disappearing message timer on.
- ALWAYS aim to share your experiences and ideas (if you feel comfortable to) rather than give unsolicited advice.
- ALWAYS make sure you have other tools at hand to help in times of difficulty or crisis. This should not be your only support resource.
- ALWAYS use content notes and trigger warnings.
Please note these are not a crisis groups. If you are in crisis, need legal support, or therapy please see the non-exhaustive list of resources on our Self Help page.
