The Anima Arts Collective (f.k.a Anti-Speciesist Arts Collective) was founded in 2020 by Aiyana.
Anima describes the spirit, the soul and all those that move. We practice abolitionist anti-speciesism through animal artistry, community care & (re)imaginative learning.
We wish to express ourselves through animal artistry – all animals create; art is a practice of nature and essential to the success of all and any revolutions.
We know that community care is a needed framework for our healing and reconnection to and reclamation of our human animality. Animal accomplices work hard to offer liberation to other animals, often getting burnt out and emotionally wrecked. How can we build sustainability for all those that move in tandem with freedom?
New possibilities require imagination and learning – particularly for humans in solidarity with the animal struggle. We recognise all animals as colonised peoples, reject white mainstream “veganism” instead embracing the roots of animal liberation and the practice of radical companionship.
The Radical Companionship Project – which is a pro-animal theory, anti-speciesist study group and mutual aid network – is now our sister and Anima is the umbrella under which it resides. Whilst Anima Arts Collective works with humans in service of our growth and wellbeing, The Radical Companionship Project aims to centre nonhuman needs.
